Catching Up With Darian Street

It’s never easy to follow a legend, it might be even more challenging to follow a successful family member.  That could turn out to be the case with Darian Street.

Panther fans, if that name sounds familiar it should. Darian’s brother is former Pitt wide receiver and current Dallas Cowboy Devin Street.

Street (6-2, 170) is a junior wideout for Bethlehem (Pa).   So far this season, he’s recorded 26 catches for 305 yards and 8 TD’s.

I had a chance to talk with Street earlier today and had to ask him about the Pitt Panthers. By the way, Pitt was the first school to offer Street. As of now, Pitt is his only offer but that will change after the season.

“The first offer was really special. Pitt is a place that I’m used to going and I love the city. It’s a new staff and they really make me feel wanted”, said Street. “They’re special people and Pitt is only going to get better from here on out.”

Street went on to say” the coach that’s recruiting me hardest is Coach Salem. We usually talk every other day thru Twitter. He really makes me feel welcome. Coach Narduzzi is also another great guy and he usually wishes me luck before every one of my games.”

The junior wide receiver tells me that after the season he’d like to visit schools like Rutgers, Notre Dame, Penn State and Duke.

He plans on getting serious with recruiting after his season ends and knows he can and will get advice from his older brother.

“My brother is a great person in my life. He’s taught me many things in order to be a great receiver like technique in running routes as well as blocking.” Street went on to say, “people tell me that I’m better than him at my age so that’s nice to hear.”

So what kind of recruiting advice is Devin  giving his younger brother?

“We usually don’t talk too much about it…He is just very supportive and a great role model to have. He would be fine with any place that I choose to go. Devin had a tough time at Pitt with changes of coaches, but he really like Coach Narduzzi and what he’s doing at Pitt. He also loved the city as well and still misses it so that’s good to hear”, said Street.

Oddly enough, it might not work to Pitt’s advantage that Devin went to Pitt.  In a way, he might not want to hear about his brother and the inevitable comparisons.

“I think about that often. Sadly, being that Devin played at Pitt and now with the Cowboys, it’s just going to come with the territory.  It’s a pet peeve of mine but that won’t be the reason for me deciding on a school. My job is to just be better than he was and make my own name for myself”,  said Street.

After talking with Street, it’s apparent that the Pitt coaches have made a positive impression with him. The interest they’re showing him is sincere.

“The coaches at Pitt are really great and they really make me feel wanted and as if they really need me by the time I depart high school. It’s very nice to know that the head man wished me luck before every game….He makes me feel like family and I’m excited to build more and more of a stronger bond.”

i just watched some film that Darian sent me. Two things stood out to me: 1) Great route runner, very precise. 2) His footwork and how quick he got in and out of his breaks.  I’d be very surprised if he’s not a 3-star recruit with chance to be a 4-star.   Looks very skilled and polished.

Darian Street is a recruit to keep your eye on.
